Eskimos claim Jim Aspin Trophy!At the end of last Saturday nights game at the Jus Jordan Arena, an 11-0 win over the Manitoulin Islanders, the Eskis stood at centre ice with their hockey sticks held high, saluting the crowd and thanking them for their support so far this season. An enthusiastic crowd cheered for the black and gold. The 2 points that they added to their regular season point total allowed the team to finally achieve a goal that they had not yet been able reach in their 11 year history. The Abitibi Eskimos clinched the regular season Championship of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) for the first time, claiming the Jim Aspin trophy. Even though there are still a couple of games to play in the regular season, the Eskimos are too far ahead in the standings for any other team to catch them. 7th ANNUAL LAKE TROUT DERBYThe Iroquois Falls Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Jack Pine Snowmobile Club and Iroquois Falls Recreation Dept. are pleased to be teaming up once more in hosting the 7th Annual Lake Trout Derby. Once again the Recreation Department will be replacing the Tourism Committee and taking the lead on the event. Northern Ontario is privileged to be encircled by the pristine outdoors with premier fishing opportunities and we are proud to be able to hold this event in effort to showcase the area while providing fun filled family entertainment.
